Snapshot
Honours Environmental Sciences IV student estimating peat carbon content using a portable spectrometer in Hudson Bay lowlands
Currently working on a thesis project
Position obtained through: Networking, classes
My responsibilities include developing empirical and machine learning models between peat carbon content, and visible and infrared spectral data, and reporting the findings in a peer-reviewed journal. My thesis findings will contribute to the development of an in situ optical device for rapid measurement of peat carbon content.
Future plans: Probably a master's degree in Environmental Science, and then conservation or restoration work.
Ask questions! It can feel intimidating at first but as an undergrad working in a lab, people do not expect you to already know everything going into your research.
