About Me

Hello MacSci! My name is Maria Ruggero, I am a fourth-year chemical biology student and this year's Mentorship Coordinator. I was the Mentorship Coordinator last year but my experience in the mentorship program didn’t start there. I was a mentee in my first year and a mentor in my second year. As a first-year student I was super nervous for university so it was great to be connected with upper-year science students. I’m excited to continue to provide the same guidance and help to this year's incoming students. Please say hi if you ever see me around campus. You can normally find me in any McMaster’s libraries till very late hours.

Goals

1. Increase in-person engagement of the program through events.

2. Increase community between mentors to better help support the mentees.

3. Continue to grow the program to reach more of the first-year class.

Projects

1. Increase in-person event attendance through creating more engaging bi-semesterly events that mentees and mentors can both look forward to.

2. Create a platform where mentors can provide support to each other and have opportunities to reach out to the community and find mentors with specific knowledge to help their mentees.

3. Create useful resource sheets that provide real advice and resources that mentees can utilize and look back on.

Reasons to Contact Me

1. You’re an upper-year student who wants to join the program as a mentor.

2. You’re a first-year student who wants to be mentored and join the program.

3. Debate which Star Wars movie is best (ROTS is the correct answer).
