Snapshot
My research focuses on understanding the intersection of antibiotic resistance in agricultural settings and consumer behavior in Ontario. Specifically, I explore how the public perceives the use of antibiotics in meat and poultry production and how this understanding influences their purchasing decisions regarding antibiotic-free products.
The goal of my research is to raise awareness about the links between agricultural antibiotic practices, public health, and environmental sustainability.
Alongside my co-student investigator, Shreya Krishnammagaru, my main responsibilities are to review research papers, design and distribute surveys, and analyze data on antimicrobial use in agriculture. My future responsibilities will involve conducting interviews with Ontario farmers to gain insights into farming practices and antibiotic usage.
My advice for students looking to break into research is to take full advantage of the resources available. Classes, department websites, and volunteering opportunities are all great ways to learn about how to get involved in research. Don’t hesitate to send that first email to a professor or research lab—it's often the first step to opening doors. Be proactive, ask questions, and show genuine curiosity. Most researchers are happy to mentor students who demonstrate interest and initiative!
