Laurine Andraws
Hi my name is Laurine! I'm currently heading into my second year in the PNB program, specializing from Life Sciences Gateway. I have a deep love for travel, which has taken me to various beautiful destinations in the Caribbean, my absolute favorite being Jamaica. In my spare time, I used to play the violin, and fun fact—I still have "Hedwig's Theme" memorized :) I also love dogs and have a little Cockapoo named Pax. A last fun fact about me is that I'm a certified lifeguard and actually worked at Canada's Wonderland's water park full time during the summer. I look forward to working with everyone!

Preferred Teaching Style: My preferred teaching style is both visual and interactive, particularly during online tutoring sessions. I like to use digital tools such as online whiteboards and the projection of my iPad screen to provide visual aids that complement my explanations. I believe that this approach allows me to properly break down complex concepts in real-time, making the material more accessible and engaging for students. For instance, when explaining a concept in neuroscience, I might project my iPad screen to work through a diagram of an action potential, highlighting key points and drawing connections that students can easily follow. In biology lessons, I often use diagrams or animations on the whiteboard to illustrate processes (cell division, cancer stages, etc.), which helps students visualize what they are learning. I also love using mnemonic devices, because I find them useful for helping students retain information. For example, I might create a catchy phrase or acronym to help them remember a complex sequence or set of facts. Additionally, I like relating information to everyday events and real-life scenarios (for instance, a TV show, famous movie characters, etc.). This method not only makes the material more relatable but I think it also enhances the student's ability to retrieve the information later. Combining these strategies assures that I keep tutoring sessions both engaging and memorable.
